From the 2nd to 9th , March, 2011, Doctor Liu Yi visit the research center of Chinese Religion and
Society, Purdue University and the University of Chicago Divinity School.
On the 2nd, Doctor Liu Yi arrived in Purdue University. On the afternoon of 3rd , he and Professor
Yang Fenggang exchanged their ideas to the teachers and students of Purdue University, giving a
lecture—A History Lesson: Confucianism, Christianity and the Freedom of Belief, which responded to
some current issues from a historical perspective.
On the 4th , March, Doctor Liu Yi arrived in University of Chicago and visited Professor Dwight
Hopkins from the Divinity School. On the afternoon of 8th , as a guest of American Religious History
Workshop, he gave a lecture titled “Beyond Liberalism and Fundamentalism: the American—Chinese
Christianity”. The workshop mentioned was co-sponsored by the Divinity School and Confucius Institute
of Chicago University. The faculty of Divinity School and some Chinese visiting scholars were present
On the afternoon of 9th ,Doctor Liu Yi went back to Berkeley, Georgetown University. He will continue
his one--year research as a visiting scholar. Till the middle of April, he will report the research
results in the Berkeley center.
